Jamboard Template HACK

Jamboard is one of my favorite tools for teaching mathematics…especially when it comes to distance learning. I will often use three or four Jamboards throughout the math lesson I am teaching.

My instructional flow goes something like this:

  1. Teach a small concept
  2. Collaborate
    • Share a Jamboard with ten identical slides (because I will have 10 breakout rooms)
    • Randomly send students to breakout rooms with 3 students per room
    • The breakout room number indicates which Jamboard slide students will collaborate on
    • Students will spend a few minutes collaborating on the one or two problems
  3. Debrief… We return to the main room to debrief the experience
  4. Repeat Steps 1 though 3

Depending on the concept I am teaching, we might do this 3-step cycle two to four times during a lesson!

What are the benefits?

  • Students learn skills in bite-sized nuggets
  • Students will experience frequent transitions (teach → collaborate → debrief) to keep things interesting
  • Frequent opportunities to collaborate with other students
  • Increases engagement

Here is a video showing a HACK for quickly creating multiple Jamboards in a single lesson:
