I will often use three or four Jamboards throughout the math lesson I am teaching.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-978 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/theothermath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/teach-breakout-debrief-cycle-300x297.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"297\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theothermath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/teach-breakout-debrief-cycle-300x297.png 300w, https:\/\/theothermath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/teach-breakout-debrief-cycle-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/theothermath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/teach-breakout-debrief-cycle-125x125.png 125w, https:\/\/theothermath.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/teach-breakout-debrief-cycle.png 630w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>My instructional flow goes something like this:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Teach a small concept<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate\n<ul>\n<li>Share a Jamboard with ten identical slides (because I will have 10 breakout rooms)<\/li>\n<li>Randomly send students to breakout rooms with 3 students per room<\/li>\n<li>The breakout room number indicates which Jamboard slide students will collaborate on<\/li>\n<li>Students will spend a few minutes collaborating on the one or two problems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Debrief&#8230; We return to the main room to debrief the experience<\/li>\n<li>Repeat Steps 1 though 3<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Depending on the concept I am teaching, we might do this 3-step cycle two to four times during a lesson!<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are the benefits?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students learn skills in bite-sized nuggets<\/li>\n<li>Students will experience frequent transitions (teach \u2192 collaborate \u2192 debrief) to keep things interesting<\/li>\n<li>Frequent opportunities to collaborate with other students<\/li>\n<li>Increases engagement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here is a video showing a HACK for quickly creating multiple Jamboards in a single lesson:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3TT3CmPvuBw\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jamboard is one of my favorite tools for teaching mathematics&#8230;especially when it comes to distance learning.
