Well&#8230;yeah&#8230;sorta.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c1\"><span class=\"c0\">If you haven&#8217;t already started using the FIABs and IABs freely available at the CAASPP website, then now is a great time to get started!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c1\"><span class=\"c0\">At the end of each chapter that you teach, consider using an FIAB to wrap up the instruction prior to giving your test. Better yet, don&#8217;t give your homemade test&#8230;give the FIAB instead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c1\"><span class=\"c0\">Why?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c4\"><span class=\"c2\">As you teach whatever content, there naturally occurs a gap between the rigor at which you are teaching your students and the rigor expected by the CAASPP. At the end of each chapter you teach, close the &#8220;rigor gap&#8221; using an FIAB as an additional instructional tool. We call this process the &#8220;Last Mile Protocol&#8221;. This 5-day protocol wraps up the chapter you have taught by mixing assessment and instruction together. (Students don&#8217;t even realize they are being assessed until the final day.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong><span class=\"c2\">Day 1<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul class=\"c6 lst-kix_5gbs8uh36jt0-1 start\">\n<li class=\"c5 li-bullet-0\"><span class=\"c2\">Select a relevant FIAB\/IAB and create a testing session labeled as non-standardized.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"c5 li-bullet-0\"><span class=\"c2\">Students work in pairs on the FIAB\/IAB. Each student has their laptop open and is entering their own <\/span><span class=\"c2\">answers. (In theory, both students will get the exact same score, since they worked on it together.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"c5 li-bullet-0\"><span class=\"c2\">Provide students with scratch paper with the expectation that students will show their work on EVERY problem.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong><span class=\"c2\">Day 2 and Day 3<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul class=\"c6 lst-kix_5gbs8uh36jt0-1 start\">\n<li class=\"c5 li-bullet-0\"><span class=\"c2\">Use CERS to view the data.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"c5 li-bullet-0\"><span class=\"c2\">Identify the most missed questions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"c5 li-bullet-0\"><span class=\"c2\">Do Building Thinking Classroom-style lessons with those questions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong><span class=\"c2\">Day 4<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul class=\"c6 lst-kix_5gbs8uh36jt0-1 start\">\n<li class=\"c5 li-bullet-0\"><span class=\"c2\">Do additional re-teaching using problems\/tasks from a source OTHER than the FIAB\/IAB.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em><strong><span class=\"c2\">Day 5<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul class=\"c6 lst-kix_5gbs8uh36jt0-1 start\">\n<li class=\"c5 li-bullet-0\"><span class=\"c2\">Create a new testing session for the same FIAB\/IAB as Day 1.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"c5 li-bullet-0\"><span class=\"c2\">This time label the administration as standardized.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"c5 li-bullet-0\"><span class=\"c2\">Students complete this individually<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"c11\"><span class=\"c2\">GOAL: \u00a0Fewer than 20% of students in the red band<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c4\">\u00a0<span class=\"c0\"><a class=\"c8\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/docs.google.com\/presentation\/d\/1VO1dtLSK5mRgOgJ49BZILVmRAVkN_ZXZVIr4sJAn-cg\/edit?usp%3Dsharing&amp;sa=D&amp;source=editors&amp;ust=1733260109512636&amp;usg=AOvVaw1z_ecilPFHOTPqVNUXqjXb\">Read more about the Last Mile Protocol here.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c1\"><span class=\"c0\">By using the FIAB for additional instruction at the end of each chapter, students are regularly exposed to the question types and the rigor that they will see on the official CAASPP test in Spring, 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"c1\">The MCOE Math Team recommends teachers use the Test Administrator Interface to create an FIAB testing session for your students to work on the FIAB in pairs. (Mark the testing session as &#8216;<span class=\"c6\">non-standard<\/span><span class=\"c0\">&#8216; so you know this was not an official testing environment.)
